Bio
Hi, I’m Aastha (she/her). Thank you for landing here! I know that finding a space where you feel truly understood can be a journey in itself.
I approach counselling as a collaborative process. Your lived experience guides the work, and my role is to walk alongside you with curiosity, honesty, and care. I believe therapy should feel like a place where you can exhale a little. A place where you don’t have to perform, explain away your feelings, or have everything figured out. I work alongside individuals and folks in relationships, and I am deeply committed to creating an inclusive and affirming space for people of all genders, sexualities, and relationship structures. Moreover, I offer counselling in Hindi and English.
My work draws from Emotionally Focused Therapy and Somatic approaches. Together, we begin to understand the emotional patterns we fall into when we feel hurt, overwhelmed, or disconnected from others. We slow these moments down and gently explore what may be happening beneath our reactions, while also noticing what the body might be holding in those moments. As we begin to understand these patterns, it can open new ways of responding to ourselves and relating to the people who matter most. I also work from a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive perspective. Many struggles we bring into therapy are deeply connected to larger systems, cultural expectations, and life circumstances. When we look at those influences together, it can help shift the narrative from “something is wrong with me” to “this makes sense given what I’ve lived through."
My path to the therapy room has been a winding one. I spent my early years between India and Mozambique before eventually settling in Canada. Living across cultures and navigating life as a woman of colour and a first-generation immigrant has shaped how I understand identity, belonging, and transition. I’ve come to appreciate the many layers that make up a person’s story, and I hold deep respect for the courage it takes to share those layers with someone else.
Living with chronic health conditions has shaped how I hold space for others. It has given me a deep respect for the resilience within chronic illness communities while also revealing the stigma and gaps that often exist in health care, especially in women’s health. This experience has deepened my commitment to listening closely and meeting people with compassion rather than judgment. If health challenges are part of your story, you will not have to minimize or explain them away here.
Our sessions move at a pace that feels safe for you. We usually begin by checking in about what feels most present in your life, and we decide together where to focus our time. Because I value the connection between mind and body, we often close with grounding or somatic practices, so you leave feeling a little steadier and supported.
I hope that our work helps you feel more at home in your own skin.
Outside of counselling, I enjoy cooking, baking, painting, practicing yoga, and exploring British Columbia’s beautiful landscapes. On quieter evenings, you’ll likely find me curled up with a TV series and a cup of mint tea.
