Bio
Hi, my name is Rui (they/them). I live and practice on the unceded, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
As a counsellor in training, my focus is on creating a safe and supportive space for you to share and explore your experiences. I approach counselling with curiosity and collaboration, and I see myself as a supportive ally walking alongside you in your healing journey.
My work is grounded in a client-centred, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive lens. My experience in social work and community services has shaped my understanding of mental health as deeply connected to relationships, culture, and broader systems.
As a first-generation Chinese immigrant and a non-binary queer person, I hold a strong awareness of how identity, belonging, and marginalization can impact mental health. I strive to offer a space that is affirming, inclusive, and responsive to diverse lived experiences.
In my practice, I integrate a range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and existential therapy. Rather than applying one fixed model, I draw from these approaches in ways that support your unique goals- whether that involves building practical coping strategies, deepening emotional awareness, or exploring meaning and identity.
In our work together, you can expect a balance of gentle exploration and practical support. I value authenticity in the therapeutic relationship and believe that healing often begins with feeling seen and heard.
I offer counselling in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. In addition to online and in-office sessions, I also provide outdoor sessions and walk-and-talk therapy for those who feel more at ease connecting in natural spaces.
Outside of counselling, I spend much of my time hiking with my dog, climbing, training in judo and jujutsu, playing chess, making soap, learning about mushrooms, and practicing lion dance.
你好,我是 Rui(they/them),一名正在受訓的心理諮詢師。

They have short black hair and wear black pants with a black-and-white hoodie. Behind them are neutral coloured pillows, green plants, and a wall depicting a painted rainbow in soft neutral shades of grey, purple, and pink.
