Bio

Hi! My name is Star (she/her). I am a queer, cisgender, white settler living on the unceded and stolen lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations in so-called Vancouver.

I value community, justice, mutual aid, decolonization, and liberation. I was raised by a single mother in a working-class household, and I am now a parent to a gender-expansive neurodiverse 6-year-old within a non-traditional family structure. I am newly exploring my own neurodiversity, and I experience the world in a fat body, struggling and thriving with chronic pain, depression, and trauma. I am currently completing a master's degree in social work at Wilfrid Laurier University, and I additionally hold an MA in History and a BA in Gender Studies/History from Simon Fraser University.

My practice is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and broadly anti-oppressive. I draw on my lived experience to support those living within made-marginalized communities. In particular, I am a long-time advocate for sex workers’ rights and have a background in support work with sex workers, people who use drugs, people who are precariously housed, and queer youth. I strongly believe that all people are the experts on their own lives. My role in this process is to walk alongside you, providing emotional validation, tools for nervous system regulation, and genuine care. I will hold space for what you share with curiosity, respect, and great empathy.

I aim to listen deeply and actively, asking thoughtful questions that help us understand the stories you’ve developed about yourself and your life in order to reframe the narrative. Through shared effort, I can support you in becoming unstuck, feeling empowered, being with and moving through your feelings, and building a more solid sense of internal safety.

I welcome you as you are and am committed to working with clients through sex and relationship challenges (including within polyamorous/non-monogamous or kink-positive contexts), parenting issues (particularly within non-traditional family structures), family of origin issues, surviving abuse or assault, coping with anxiety, depression, or burnout, challenging moments of growth, loss, or transition, and more.

Outside of my role here, I am a new stand-up comic, an on-again/off-again musician, and an avid fiction reader. I’ll take just about any chance I can to relax in hot water, and I love a sweet treat.

Image Description: Star sits on a brown leather couch, smiling at the camera with her arms crossed. Her brown hair falls below her shoulders, and she wears glasses. She wears a denim long-sleeve button-up shirt and black pants. A tattoo on her hand and arm is visible, and she accessorizes with earrings, a septum ring, and a necklace. Her nails are painted light blue. Behind her is a panelled wall with artwork of a green sky and clouds.
