Alayna Fender, RCC

Bio

Alayna (she/her) is a queer counsellor who works alongside individuals and couples navigating trauma, relationship and communication difficulties, attachment work, and identity exploration. She believes that folks seek counselling due to a combination of emotional distress, unmet needs, unprocessed past experiences, and the reality of navigating oppressive societal structures. She is therefore deeply committed to social justice and advocacy within her practice.

Alayna specializes in trauma, and is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). She uses a holistic approach that combines parts work (Internal Family Systems; IFS), trauma processing (EMDR) and somatics, with mindfulness- and compassion-based approaches.

When working with couples/relationships, Alayna combines the deep attachment work of Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) with the practical skill-building of The Gottman Method, tailoring her approach to the needs of each relationship. With warmth, curiosity, and compassion, she aims to create a therapeutic relationship that supports you in exploring, discovering, and celebrating your most authentic self.

Outside of the therapy room, Alayna loves to climb, camp, and spend time with her cat, dog, and loved ones. She is a settler, currently living and practicing on the stolen, ancestral, and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.

Image Description: Alayna sits leaning against a cozy creme-coloured couch with a plant next to her. She is smiling, and wearing a blue button down shirt with with sleeves rolled up, with her curly brown hair up in a bun.
