Nava (she/her) is a cisgendered, non-disabled, second-generation Persian immigrant and the daughter of refugees. She lives and practices on the stolen, ancestral, and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. Nava is currently completing her Masters in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia.

She works alongside individuals who are navigating various concerns, which may include anxiety, depression, experiences of trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, grief, and identity. She uses an integrated person-centered approach that supports clients in exploring their feelings, thoughts, and experiences, with emphasis on collaboration, safety, and intersectional feminist values. She draws on Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), attachment theory, parts work, and somatics, to inform her practice.

Nava has experience as a front-line worker, supporting survivors of gender-based violence. In doing this work she came to understand the importance and value of using an anti-oppressive framework, and meeting individuals where they are at. She has witnessed firsthand the impact of creating safe spaces that validate and honour the unique experiences of individuals, and the power in fostering trust and resilience.

What to Expect When Working with Nava

  • An anti-oppressive, multicultural, and intersectional lens. Nava believes that the different systems and contexts that we exist in impact our well-being, sense of self, and access to resources.

  • A non-judgmental, compassionate approach. Nava recognizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship in counselling, and you can expect her to meet you wherever you may be in your personal journey, with empathy and warmth.

  • Collaborative and person-centered. Nava views counselling as a collaborative process between equals, where client and counsellor work together to explore challenges, identify strengths and goals, and develop strategies. Client input is invaluable, and she will always respect a person’s expertise in their own life.

Outside of the counselling space, Nava enjoys spending time with her friends and family, hosting dinner parties, trying out new ways to move her body, and going to comedy shows. Nava is also a ceramic artist and appreciates creating things that she can eat out of.
