Aileen Cham, RCC

Bio

I view my therapeutic role and my experiences as a human to be deeply interconnected. My practice is informed through my lens as a queer, Taiwanese-Malaysian "third-culture kid" navigating chronic mental illness and neurodiverse experiences. While education and training provide a solid framework for my therapeutic approach, it is most coloured by my belief that therapy is, at its core, a space for shared humanity.

I align with and often work well with:

  • creatives and artmakers,

  • folks who have been deemed “too emotional”, “too much”, or “highly sensitive”; seen as “weird”, “different”, or have been othered for existing outside the dominant social scripts,

  • sexual/gender diverse experiences and neurodivergent experiences,

  • those experiencing (chronic) suicidality and self-harm,

  • intergenerational and complex trauma – especially with those who are nervous about exploring these themes!

I enjoy working creatively and curiously through expressive arts, weaving in somatic (body-based) explorations, and introducing new ways of understanding ourselves through parts work. For folks seeking skill-building or more structured learning, I like using DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy). In all of these, my practice is rooted in an anti-capitalist, abolitionist, and Disability Justice-informed framework that looks beyond individual “fixing”, and towards ways of being that honour the full spectrum of who you are.
