Bio
Hi, I’m Ashtyn (she/her). I’m really glad you’re here.
My approach to counselling is relational, embodied, and grounded in genuine connection. I care deeply about creating a space where people feel safe enough to show up as they are. I don’t sit on the sidelines as a neutral observer; I show up as a collaborative partner in the work, bringing curiosity, compassion, honesty, and at times a bit of playfulness when it helps things feel a little lighter.
My previous work naturally led me toward wanting to continue supporting people in deeper ways. Much of my experience has taken place in the anti-violence sector, where I provided frontline support to folks navigating sexual and gender-based violence, substance use, and the realities of systems that don’t always offer care. Being in those rooms taught me so much about resilience, resourcefulness, and what it means to get through things in ways that make sense for you. It also taught me that people already carry a ton of strength, even when the world tells them otherwise.
I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you as a collaborator as you make choices that feel empowered and aligned with who you are. My work is integrative and rooted in trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, feminist, and harm-reduction values, with a strong emphasis on community care. I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches when working with individuals and couples, and I strive to create a space that is inclusive and affirming for people of all genders, sexualities, and relationship structures. Our work together centres empowerment, consent, and genuine connection, and unfolds in a way that is responsive to what feels present and meaningful in the moment. Sessions move at your pace, with the intention of creating a space where you can show up as your authentic self without judgment.
Who am I? Well, I’m a queer, cisgender, neurospicy, able-bodied settler living and working in Vancouver, BC on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Outside of the counselling room, I’m usually listening to music or gathering with community as I see collective joy as an act of resistance. I also enjoy crafting silly, bejewelled creations and spending time with my rescue pup, Dolly Barkin, who reminds me daily of the power of rest and a good snuggle.
