Bio
Hi, I’m Ashtyn (she/her).
I’m a cisgender, queer, neurospicy, able-bodied settler based in Vancouver, BC on the stolen and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.
My approach to counselling is relational, embodied, and very human. I care deeply about creating a space where emotional safety, authenticity, and collaboration come first. I am not a neutral observer on the sidelines. I show up as a co-conspirator who is engaged, compassionate, honest, and occasionally brings in a touch of humour when it helps us breathe a little easier.
I’ve spent the last decade working in the anti-violence sector and community spaces with survivors of sexual violence, people who use substances, and folks navigating systems that don’t always offer care. Being in those rooms taught me so much about resilience, resourcefulness, and what it means to get through things in ways that make sense for you. It also taught me that people already carry a ton of strength, even when the world tells them otherwise. These experiences remind me to bring my whole self into the space and to work in ways that centre consent, safety, and a non-pathologizing approach.
I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to be a collaborator as you make choices that feel empowered and aligned with who you are. My work is integrative and rooted in trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, feminist, and harm-reduction values, with a strong emphasis on community care. I take a bottom-up approach by honouring what your body and emotions are communicating without rushing or overriding them.
Together, we will co-create a space where you can move at your own pace, feel seen in your complexity, and explore what healing and possibility might look like for you.
When I’m not in session, I’m usually listening to music or gathering with community in ways that feel like resistance and collective joy. Nature is one of my favourite places to regulate and reset, and I love crafting and making silly, bejewelled creations. At home, my small rescue pup, Dolly Barkin, reminds me of the sweetness of rest and the healing power of a good snuggle.
