Bio
Hi there! I’m Michelle (she/her).
I’m a queer, neurodivergent, chronically ill counsellor, and the eldest daughter of Korean immigrants. I came to this work through navigating caregiving, cultural dissonance, and family history shaped by war, colonialism, and migration. Growing up in a predominantly white, queerphobic area of BC, I learned how to hold tension, ask hard questions, and move through systems not built for me. My decade of anti-violence work with survivors of sexual violence and folks navigating trauma, substance use, poverty, and systemic harm taught me to sit with layered grief, honour coping/ survival strategies, and recognize how often people are dismissed, or asked to both hide and prove their struggles.
In session, I bring curiosity, care, and steady presence. Whether you arrive with questions, ambivalence, or strong emotions, I aim to offer a space where you don’t have to mask or shrink, and where you can reconnect with parts of yourself that have felt lost, silenced, or shamed. At the core of my work is a commitment to co-creating culturally aware spaces that honour complexity, support meaning-making, and move toward connection, authenticity, and moments of delight.
My practice is trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and rooted in intersectional feminist and harm reduction frameworks. I integrate narrative, somatic, mindfulness, and emotion-focused practices. I'm interested in how cultural, structural, and historical forces shape our stories and coping. My practice is inclusive of sex work, kink, non-monogamous relationships, and 2SLGBTQ+ identities. I also value feedback, and am committed to ongoing self-reflection and unlearning.
Some (but not all) areas I support include:
Sexual and gender-based violence
Intergenerational, childhood, and relational trauma
Chronic pain/ illness and nervous system regulation
Neurodivergence (especially late diagnosed or undiagnosed)
Substance use and addictions
Identity, shame, and self-compassion
Depression and anxiety
Culturally sensitive boundary setting
Navigating life transitions, relationships, and chosen family
Outside of counselling, my forest-gremlin soul finds joy in green spaces, baking and cooking with loved ones, tending to my balcony garden (and lemon tree Lenny), and snuggling with my two mini poodles.
As a covid-conscious counsellor, I am fully vaccinated & boosted, mask in public spaces, and am happy to wear a mask during in-person sessions.
Image Description: Michelle is centered in the photo, smiling with her teeth at the camera. She has long wavy dark hair and wears round glasses. She is dressed in an olive green button-up shirt over a white dress with a colorful floral and cherry print. The background is filled with greenery.
