Bio
Hey! It’s nice to meet you. I’m Kathy (she/her), a cisgender, queer, neurodivergent, mostly able-bodied, bicultural individual and the eldest daughter of Chinese immigrants. I live, work and learn on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
As a 1.5-generation immigrant, I’ve learned to navigate the space between differing cultures and its accompanying expectations. Having to hold in my own voice while moving through structures and systems within our space that were not built for me has taught me the importance of being truly heard and seen.
My approach to counselling is relational, nonjudgmental, person-centered and grounded in forming genuine connections. It is important to me that we co-create a space together in which you feel safe to explore and reconnect with different parts of yourself. I do my best to ensure that our space is inclusive and affirming for people from all walks of life. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and I’m here to work collaboratively alongside you and to support you on this journey.
I am especially passionate about working with and supporting neurodivergent, sex workers, BIPOC, and queer/LGBTQ2S+ individuals in reconnecting, discovering or re-writing their own stories. I strive towards anti-oppressive, feminist and trauma-informed care but also recognize that I am still at the very start of my own journey and have plenty of learning and unlearning to do!
Outside of counselling, you can usually find me curled up on the couch drinking some hot tea playing video games. I’m a little bit of a couch potato but will take to nature if my community calls. My family, friends, and furry friends inspire me to be my best self every day and remind me of the importance of community and belonging.
Image Description: Kathy is crouched beside an Akita dog outdoors. The dog leans its face toward hers with their eyes gently closed, while Kathy smiles softly at the camera. Kathy has long, straight dark hair and wears a light blue denim jacket and black pants.
