Ivan Leonce, RSW

Bio

Every part of you is welcome in your counselling conversations with Ivan – the tender, the tough, and all the tricky parts in between. The stories you have told a thousand different ways and the ones just waiting for a soft place to name out loud for the very first time. The part of you that is pretty sure this might be a good next step, and the part that might still be a little nervous anyway. Ivan works with those in his care to help make sense of it all, together.

He is particularly experienced supporting clients in navigating the sometimes difficult, overwhelming & uncertain feelings that show up in our relationships in all their forms - with our partners, parents, families, co-workers, friends. He is also skilled in supporting folks through anxiety, depression, grief, major life transitions & issues with substance use.

Ivan's healing work is shaped by his lived & cultural experiences as a Black, queer immigrant of mixed Afro-Caribbean, Tamil & Kalinago ancestry as well as his professional training in trauma-informed, decolonial approaches. His counselling style integrates aspects of narrative, somatic, relational & solution-focused therapies.

He is a Registered Social Worker and graduate of the University of Victoria where he completed his generalist training grounded in Indigenous approaches to helping & healing, and the University of British Columbia, where he completed advanced practice training in clinical social work.

Image Description: Ivan is centered in the image while smiling at the camera. He is wearing a white shirt with a plaid button up on top, and a yellow beanie. The background is blurred branches and leaves.
