Ashleen (she/her) wholeheartedly trusts in providing safe spaces for individuals to share their emotional challenges honestly, receive support and gain the knowledge and tools to help themselves reach a better sense of overall well-being, in their own time.
Identifying as a cisgender, queer, non-disabled, second-generation settler and woman of colour, Ashleen recognizes the multiple intersections of each individual's identity and how it shapes their lived experiences. In her everyday life and in the therapeutic space she uses an anti-oppressive lens to support individuals from communities who face barriers due to systemic oppression in society.
Ashleen believes that each individual has capacity to make change in their life at their own pace, and as a counsellor, she is here to provide support and a safe space for individuals to explore the depths of themselves, in their own time. She has a calm, warm, welcoming and playful presence with a deep understanding of empathy, validating other individual’s experiences and creating spaces in the community to help others feel less alone.
Ashleen uses a client centered approach and supports individuals struggling with relationship conflict (partner, family, friends and co-workers), stress with life transitions (school, work, relationships), multicultural and intergenerational family challenges, burnout, boundaries, marginalized individuals experiencing systemic oppression (BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities), invisible disability, self-advocacy and self-compassion.
Ashleen’s approaches in therapy include: Somatic therapy, CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy, Non-violent communication, trauma informed, intersectional-feminism and anti-oppressive.
When integrating these approaches, Ashleen is able to create space for individuals to explore narratives that emerge from the different challenges clients face while also providing space for becoming aware of somatic experiences and emotional processing. Ashleen is able to facilitate this process within a safe container with emotional regulation resources for the client and working collaboratively together.
In her free time, Ashleen enjoys playing guitar/piano, singing, songwriting, painting, spending time in nature, checking out local coffee shops and restaurants with friends and engaging in social justice work.
